Upgrade or Reimplementation? Improving Maintainability and Cost of Ownership, While Moving from Siebel 6 to Siebel 8
Infosys conducted a joint session with AMP on how the Siebel platform was enhanced and customized to become a business-critical system at AMP.
Business Challenges
AMP faced several challenges, including:
- Disparate processes followed by various businesses meant that implementation of these processes led to replication of UI components (views and applets) for each of these processes (redundant objects were never decommissioned or reused)
- Interfaces were not optimally implemented (often overly complex and highly customized)
- Error and exception handling was inconsistent and/or non-existent
Infosys' Solution
Infosys' experts reimplemented Siebel. Our team effected major changes in several aspects of the application, including activities, service requests, interfaces and visibility rules. The team undertook major initiatives in data migration and analytics architecture. Our solution also incorporated enhanced campaign management and marketing capabilities, and deployed a custom authentication mechanism.
Infosys' solution enabled AMP to align with the current version of Siebel, leverage new Siebel technologies and reduce the total cost of ownership.

Oracle Application Integration Architecture Center of Excellence as a Competitive Differentiator
Infosys organized a panel discussion on how Oracle and its partners can achiever faster ROI by reducing the cost and risk of integration projects.
Key Takeaways
- Enterprise Information Integration (EII) or Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) technologies used to federate and synchronize systems and data have evolved - the basis of this move from basic batch and API-based integration for point-to-point integration between applications to message-based platforms.
- Complex EII and EAI technologies have added to the architectural complexity of business and perpetuate problems with point-to-point integration. One of the root causes is data tightly coupled to applications and business processes. The data is not managed by a single, independent resource to capture the complete and current enterprise understanding of the customer, product, account or supplier.
- The key to success will be to enable changed business processes that can be orchestrated on a scalable and managed platform. There will be more emphasis on business entity modeling with standard execution interfaces, for orchestration on a SOA platform.
- Oracle Application Integration Architecture (AIA) will be an excellent platform to act as a reference architecture for customers embarking on the SOA journey
- Oracle AIA articulates two fundamental areas: The need for a clean, easy to use object services layer in the form of the foundation pack and pre-built processes in the form of PIPs

Infosys' Solution
Our architects developed several solutions to address the business challenges:
- Provided an alternative to Siebel Product Configurator for bulk customization of products
- Redefined and developed pricing interfaces to allow multi-tasking and batch background processing
- Enabled scenario modeling for sales users with versioning capabilities
