Infosys endorses CEO statement on climate policy to G8
Infosys endorsed a CEO statement on climate policy under the auspices of the World Economic Forum and the World Business Council for Sustainable Business Development.
World Economic Forum Chairman Klaus Schwab handed a letter with policy recommendations from chief executive officers of global companies to Yasuo Fukuda, Prime Minister of Japan on the eve of the G8 Summit in Japan.
The statement signed by over 80 CEOs recommends a long-term policy framework to combat climate change:
- Mitigate greenhouses gas (GHG) emission - use multi-dimensional market mechanisms like clear targets and credits, policy-based commitments, energy efficiency initiatives, target specific high-emitting business sectors within countries, and restructure global supply chains
- Aid poor countries with the transition to more environmentally safe practices
- Market-based incentives for the development of green technology
- Increase private investment in climate change-related activities
- Disseminate information to consumers so that they too can combat climate change by modifying their consumption habits
- Standardize metrics and methodologies used to measure progress, so that all countries are treated on a level playing field
