Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain with a population of 1.6 million.

Throughout its 2000 year history, Barcelona has been influenced by empires like the Carthaginians, the Romans, Muslims, Visigoths and the King Charlemagne-era France that left a unique and indelible mark on the city’s identity.

From the maze-like medieval Barrio Gótico to the eye catching jewels of the 19th century flamboyant Art Nouveau structures by Antoni Gaudí, and the space-age constructions for the 1992 Olympic Games, Barcelona has some of the finest and most eccentric art and architecture in the world. It is the birthplace of the well-known surrealist painter, Juan Miró, one of the greatest masters of 20th century modern art.

Barcelona is the Spanish leader in haute couture and haute cuisine with a sense of style few European cities can rival. It is a dynamic and passionate city with a vibrant Mediterranean atmosphere and has a constant desire for change and renovation.

Today, it is a multi-cultural meeting place, culinary heaven, thriving metropolis and mondernista wonderland with a strong tradition of theatre, music and exuberant nightlife.
