Global Imaging Company Optimizes Applications

 

Client Profile
A global manufacturer of photographic, imaging and graphic communication products which help diverse groups like motion picture, healthcare and publishing industries to take, enhance and preserve images and pictures for business, information and entertainment.

 

Business Need
The client wanted a focused IT services group to maintain its mainframe and packaged applications supporting the Sales & Marketing, Financial services, HR, manufacturing and supply chain functions globally. Additional service expectations included application enhancement, support, quality assurance and identification of opportunities to leverage technology to drive efficiencies in their business processes.

 

Challenges and Requirements
The Infosys team had to address the following

  • Reduced total cost of ownership of applications
  • Assessment and enhancement of existing applications. The challenge here included judging the complexity of applications for transition planning
  • Rationalization of the work force. Educating the team on the framework and ensuring that functional and technical aspects of applications are in sequence.

 

Infosys' Role
Leveraging the effective and world famous Global Delivery Model, Infosys formed a team of Application and domain experts to scope out and perform transitional planning of various applications and knowledge transition on the process details and technical aspects. Frameworks were designed for judging the complexity of solutions which included factors like home grown vs. package, number of size, modules and interfaces.

 

The domain part of the team worked on reducing time period of knowledge transition of applications supporting domain intensive process, domain enabling the technical maintenance team and prioritizing Infosys' efforts to take ownership of applications in a sequence that would minimize time for change management.

 

Benefits and Outcome
Numerous independent systems existed before and Infosys conducted analysis and made upgrade and application rationalization recommendations resulting in cost savings by eliminating duplicate and non fit solutions.

 

Re-engineering of various business processes resulted in additional technology being embedded and further drove operations integrations.

 

Closer understanding of business processes and a combination of on-site/offshore support has resulted in cutting transition time and delivery of quality maintenance service.
