Commonly known as the 'out-of-stock' (OOS) problem, a stock-out is just one side of the story for a retailer. Excess inventory (EI) can be as much a problem as having no inventory at all. Therefore, any perspective on OOS is invalid unless made in the context of a product(s) under consideration.
