Networking: Convergence
The Networking research team at Infosys is at the front-rank of initiating the newest R&D practices in networking technologies in the wireless and wired domains within the Convergence Lab. We aim to utilize the current technological advances to be used in state-of-the-art applications in media, entertainment, healthcare, home networking and communication services. We also aspire to develop middleware solutions compliant with existing and emerging IEEE, IETF, 3GPP and other industry-wide accepted standards such as Wi-Fi, Wi-MAX, 3G, LTE and DLNA.
In the wireless domain, the Networking team is developing solutions that will provide efficient, seamless mobility support across heterogeneous networks. Apart from integrating prevalent standards, we have incorporated the latest trends in various facets of the handover mechanism including authentication, network selection and QoS matching.
Among others, an important area that we are concentrating on in the networking domain entails developing solutions that allow for the complete and proper usage of network virtualization for different application domains such as healthcare and multimedia content delivery.
The Convergence Lab is working on Openflow, an emerging network technology for which a range of software products and system components that will provide powerful, efficient and cost-effective solutions are being developed.
Since Openflow shifts many of the control functionalities from the core to the edge of the network, the introduction of its products are expected to generate tremendous interest among service providers and act as a powerful impetus for many networking innovations in the future.
