India has a rich heritage of art, literature and music. Ancient art forms can be passed down from generation to generation only when the skills of artists are frequently showcased in public.
The Infosys Foundation sustains several art forms. Learn more about some of the activities promoted by the Foundation:
2010-11
- Published the 'Kantha' book in association with India Foundation for the Arts. The book traces the roots, traditions and transition of 'Kantha' from a simple art to a highly valued art form.
- Sponsored 'Yakshagana' puppet shows by rural artists of Kogga Kamath and Sri Gopalakrishna Yakshagana Bombeyata Sangha, and drama performances by the Kasaragod and Surabhi troupes of Hyderabad at Ranga Shankara, Bengaluru
- Sponsored plays by local and international troupes at Ranga Shankara, Bengaluru
- Sponsored music concerts by rural artists under the auspices of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan
- Published 'Manohara Grantha Mala', the manuscripts of writers whose body of work remained unpublished
- Sponsored publication of 'Karnataka Kala Darshana', a documentary on culture
2009-10
- Sponsored drama performances at Ranga Shankara, Bengaluru, and puppet shows at the Puppet House, a center for theatre and puppetry in Dharwad
- Sponsored the performance of rural artists from Maharashtra in Bengaluru
- Provided financial assistance to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan for their cultural activities in Pune and Mysore
2008-09
- Provided musical instruments to students of music in rural areas
- Preserved 250-year-old Tanjavoor paintings in association with Hasta Shilpa Trust, Mysore; and partnered with India Foundation for the Arts to produce a documentary film
- Provided financial assistance to publish the 'Samagra Sahitya Samputa' of Jnanpith awardees as part of 'Manohara Grantha Mala'
