Education

Education is a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution of India. However, a dynamic public-private partnership is required to help children from underprivileged sections of society gain access to primary education.

The Infosys Foundation has embarked on the 'Library for Every Rural School' program to donate books in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Kerala. It has set up 35,000 school libraries, the largest rural education program in India. A book that simplifies computer education for rural areas has been published in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

The Foundation partners with schools in rural India to enhance education and library facilities:

2010-11

  • Provided scholarships to meritorious Ph.D. students at Gulbarga University
  • Supplied books to Door Step School, a mobile school that provides free education to underprivileged children in Pune
  • Provided financial assistance to schools in rural Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu
  • Renovated the library of Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs for research students
  • Published rare Kannada books, and short stories and novels of Shri Masti Venkatesh Iyengar

2009-10

  • Supplied books to book banks accessed by poor students in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka
  • Helped the Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) promote inter-cultural research to develop an interface between science and sastra
  • Instituted cash prizes for winners of the Olympiad Science Congress from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research
  • Partnered with Tata Institute of Social Sciences to build a hostel for students at its Mumbai campus

2008-09

  • Sponsored teachers of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers Convention to develop an innovative curriculum
  • Donated Personal Computers to schools and the Delhi Library
  • Donated furniture to colleges and libraries in rural areas of Karnataka and Maharashtra
