Linux Migration Wizard

The Linux migration wizard is a tool that assists organizations in migration from (any of the following platforms) Solaris, HP-UX, IBM-AIX to Red Hat Linux. The wizard is designed as an "accelerator" to automate the process of migration so that clients maximize time to value and avoid migration pitfalls. At a macro level, the Linux Migration Wizard creates two reports:

  1. Code generation and analysis report
  2. Effort estimation: for the amount of effort needed (in months) to handle the project.

The Wizard carries out four specific activities:

  1. Scans the application to be ported and provides an analysis of the size and difficulty of the porting effort
  2. Identifies APIs based on the information available in static repositories and automatically generates codes for simple APIs which have an easy port to Linux. Medium and complex APIs have to be manually ported
  3. Scans third party or OS-specific packages used by the current application and flags those not currently available in the market for the target platform
  4. Generates reports on the total number of lines in the project files scanned, the number of issues identified, and a breakdown of those issues by level of difficulty. These reports help in quantitatively assessing the feasibility of Migration to Linux.
