Mobile Point of Sale (POS) Solution for retailers - A case study
Crowded checkout counters at stores were causing customer complaints; the client was losing sales as customers sometimes abandoned their shopping cart in the face of a long wait. Traditional solution of additional checkout counters was costly both in terms of hardware as well as space requirements.
The client sought a solution that should be compatible with existing POS systems.
Infosys developed a system based on Apple® iOS system which extended the features of a traditional POS to a mobile handheld device. The device had features such as a barcode scanner, credit card reader and a bill printer for quick checkout. The mobile system also had capabilities for information lookup, thus providing store assistants with opportunities to cross-sell and up-sell items. This solution is validated by Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) to meet Payments Card Industry (PCI) - Payment Application Data Security Standards (PA-DSS).
