According to Balakrishnan, education should be a key priority area in Budget 2008. He feels the budget must increase investment in education, introduce more reforms, improve the quality and depth of the faculty and talent pool and increase private participation in the sector.
He believes that poor infrastructure can adversely affect India's growth. To ensure timely execution of infrastructure projects, the budget should make provisions to de-regulate infrastructure.
Balakrishnan also shared his perspective on the IT industry. According to him, the Kelkar Committee's recommendations of tax breaks to Software Technology Parks must be implemented for Indian IT companies to remain globally competitive.
