The Quintessential Web Accessibility Assessment Product

According to the United Nations Global Audit of Web Accessibility, 97% of websites do not meet basic accessibility requirements. In effect, the World Wide Web excludes almost 20% of the world’s population with cognitive, vision and other disabilities.

Differently abled users include visually challenged users who cannot read images, hearing impaired users who cannot access audio, monochrome device users who cannot differentiate between colors and the elderly who cannot read text in small font. Accessibility design ensures that websites can serve users irrespective of their physical, psychological and technological orientation.

Infosys iProwe is a patent-pending Web Accessibility Assessment Product from the Web 2.0 Research Lab of Infosys SETLabs. iProwe uses built-in intelligence to analyze and address accessibility issues of websites for enhanced Web accessibility and usability.

iProwe delivers comprehensive Web accessibility assessment, reduces time, cost and effort as well as errors in assessing and resolving accessibility issues. It helps companies with an online presence to achieve enhanced accessibility in a better, faster and cost-effective manner.

iProwe assesses websites across several Web Accessibility parameters such as Content (audio and graphics/video), Comprehension, Presentation (text, color, tables and language), Navigation, Structure (site structure, links, forms, semantic data and help), User Controls (time limits, updates and focus), and Technology Alternatives (frames, java script and CSS).

iProwe consolidates inputs from legal guidelines against which accessibility assessment needs to be conducted and suggests recommendations to meet the guidelines.

The iProwe Methodology

Infosys iProwe performs a keyword-based search that analyses Web pages, identifies features that do not meet guidelines and suggests measures to enhance accessibility. A user can select these accessibility parameters that are categorized under various standards and guidelines. iProwe analyzes the selected accessibility parameters linked to HTML elements and contextual semantic content in the Web pages. After the analysis, the results are validated by iProwe’s intelligent rules engine against best practices for website accessibility from global websites.

iProwe enables compliance with accessibility guidelines from W3C including WCAG 1.0, WCAG 2.0 and country-specific accessibility guidelines such as Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act, the American Disability Act (ADA), Disability Discrimination Act of Australia, Disability Discrimination Act of U.K. and BITV of Germany.

iProwe assesses the Web page’s accessibility break-points and generates reports in PDF and HTML as well as an overlay HTML mock-up format. The reports can be viewed in a page-by-page form or a detailed report of all the levels within a URL. The summary report provides a high level view of accessibility break-point statistics and the detailed report captures all accessibility break-points, their line numbers and suggests remedial measures.
