A leading global IT and networking company was planning to move their traditional applications for customer entitlements to cloud-native microservices-based architecture to ensure high performance and high availability.

Infosys helped the client modernize entitlement base (EB) across hardware, software, services, and cloud for 27 million customers while addressing availability, scalability and performance issues.

Key Challenges

  • The client’s technical services (TS) organization supports services that contribute nearly US $36 billion in product revenues annually. However, TS was unable to scale to cater to the ever-increasing complexity of the evolving business model. For instance, they were struggling to service and support complex offers on products/subscriptions as well as new smart licensing offers. This led to revenue leakage (over-entitlements of nearly 10%) and client dissatisfaction due to delayed services, manual checks on entitlements or inability to offer services that the client was entitled to
  • The client’s IT landscape posed several challenges such as unconnected and inconsistent data, multiple user identities, missed opportunities, redundant operations, and manual reconciliations. They were also unable to migrate from contract to subscription-based models using the existing systems/software. The current applications were not scalable, and performance was lagging due to large data volumes
  • Data was maintained in multiple sources resulting in the need for multiple systems/programs to report issues and cases
  • As the client acquired several companies, integrating these with existing entitlement systems was a challenge and led to high operational cost

The Solution

Modernizing applications increase revenue growth

  • Infosys developed a scalable architecture using cloud-native technologies like OpenStack (IaaS), Kubernetes for container management, Docker & Docker Hub for containers, RunDeck for container deployment, and domain-based microservices to achieve horizontal on-demand scalability
  • We customized the client’s in-house tool (Sync) to load voluminous data into the EB platform
  • We integrated real-time monitoring (TiGK), auditing and auto data correction through a Kafka/Logstash-based design for parallel event processing. Our cloud-based containerized solution provided robust capacity planning, improving resiliency and enabling disaster recovery
  • Data migration was enabled through Oracle Golden Gate, custom-built data sync tool, MongoDB, Logstash, Apache Kafka, and Elastic Search

Infosys modernization approach helped client achieve scale and high performance

  • Addressing data quality issues – Custom data mismatch tool was developed to address data mismatch between Oracle and Elastic, saving 90 hours or 25% of human effort per quarter.
  • Faster data migration – A custom code plug-in was developed to reduce the time for migration from 48 hours to 3 hours
  • Reduced OPEX cost – Migrating Oracle to MongoDB, Ansible to Fabric and Load Runner to SOASTA helped the client reduce OPEX by almost 50%
