Catch Them Young – Making summer vacations unforgettable for schoolchildren in India
Catch Them Young (CTY), a two-week program to initiate schoolchildren into Information Technology, completed its twelfth year in 2009. An initiative of Infosys' Education & Research (E&R) group, CTY provides school students across India a head-start in understanding Information Technology. Since 2005, CTY has benefited more than 6,390 students.
Students from reputed educational institutions are selected through an entrance test that encourages them to think out of the box. Top performers get an opportunity to work with experienced Infosys professionals on exciting projects.
CTY is conducted in three phases:
- Selection – Hundreds of students from schools in and around cities appear for a written examination
- Training – The shortlisted students undergo CTY training at our Development Centers (DCs)
- Hands-on project – Students work on projects at DCs
Students undergo training in the classroom and the laboratory, where they are introduced to topics ranging from simple concepts such as Microsoft Office to complex ones such as Relational Database Design, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), System Analysis and Design, and Programming in Visual Basic. The training is managed by educators from our E&R team and volunteers from our DCs.
In addition to technical activities, students participate in a soft-skills workshop, team-building sessions as well as quizzes and seminars to showcase their creativity and knowledge. At the end of the training, up to three students are selected from each DC for their first exposure to the professional IT environment.
For these lucky schoolchildren, CTY ensured an unforgettable summer vacation.
