Infosys’ Bangalore Development Center (DC) conducted an afforestation program in October 2010.
Green Connect, Infosys’ environmental sustainability unit, initiated employees and their families into the seed ball technique of afforestation by Masanobu Fukuoka. He pioneered natural farming with the use of local seed species to ensure that native plants grow in ideal weather conditions.
The seed balls are made by hand with a coat of earth and clay to ward off birds, insects and rodents. After drying, they are scattered across vast tracts of land. Infosys’ volunteers spread more than 100,000 seed balls in a forest near Hoskote, Bangalore. Our volunteers visit the area every month to monitor the success of afforestation.
