Infosys Science Foundation honors six pioneering researchers

The Infosys Science Foundation honored six scientists with the Infosys Prize 2011 for excellence in research. Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, presented the Indian innovators with a 22-karat gold medallion, a citation certificate and prize money of Rupee50 lakh, at a ceremony in Bangalore.

Recipients of the Infosys Prize 2011:

Prof. Kalyanmoy Deb for Engineering and Computer Science
Prof. Kalyanmoy's work in evolutionary multi-objective optimization has resulted in more efficient algorithms that benefit industries such as logistics and refineries.

Dr. Imran Siddiqi for Life Sciences
Dr. Imran's breakthrough research has contributed to a better understanding of clonal seed formation and apomixis (asexual reproduction) in plants, which can revolutionize agriculture in developing countries.

Prof. Kannan Soundararajan for Mathematical Sciences
Prof. Kannan's contributions to analytic number theory and innovative techniques to study critical values of zeta functions have enriched quantum physics.

Prof. Sriram Ramaswamy for Physical Sciences
Prof. Sriram's research on the mechanics and statistics of active matter uncovers the mysteries of collective behavior in active particles, including bacteria and schools of fish.

Prof. Raghuram G. Rajan for Social Sciences (Economics)
Prof. Raghuram's analysis of financial events as well as dysfunctional incentives deepen the understanding of economic growth and crises.

Dr. Pratap Bhanu Mehta for Social Sciences (Political Science and International Relations)
Dr. Pratap's insight into politics and public policy has contributed to Indian political philosophy and social theory.

The Infosys Science Foundation has launched the Infosys Prize Lecture series to create awareness about the discoveries of Infosys Prize winners and share experiences of distinguished researchers.
