Infosys Foundation to Support Stepwell Rejuvenation at Rastrapati Nilayam, in Hyderabad

Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic and CSR arm of Infosys will support the rejuvenation of three ancient stepwells at Rastrapati Nilayam, the official retreat of the Hon’ble President of India in Hyderabad. Under the ‘Infosys Foundation Water Rejuvenation Program’, which is part of Infosys’ long-term efforts towards sustainability, particularly climate action, the rejuvenation of the stepwells will benefit more than 8,500 people who reside in the surrounding areas.

In collaboration with Society for advancement of Human Endeavour (SAHE) Foundation, this water conservation initiative will boost the ground water levels in area resulting in an increased water capacity of 1 crore liters from 23.5 lakh liters at present. In addition, it will improve the health of communities in the surrounding areas, while preserving the historic importance of these ancient stepwells at Rastrapati Nilayam. These stepwells are among a few historical structures that still employ traditional water storage systems like channels and aqueducts, which need restoration to ensure continued and efficient water supply. This initiative also aims to incorporate rainwater harvesting techniques.

Aligned with Infosys’ commitments towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the collaboration will equally drive focus on furthering good health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, and life below water.
