David Hunter

VP & Chief Technologist, HPE

David is the Vice President of Technology Strategy and Chief Technologist for the Software Defined and Cloud Group. In this role David is responsible for defining and developing technology partnerships to enable the realization of SDGC’s Simplified Hybrid IT model.

Previous to this role, David was the Vice President & Chief Technologist for HP’s Converged Data Center Infrastructure within the HPE’s Office of the CTO.

Prior to HPE, David was at VMware, where he last served as the Chief Architect, Software Defined Datacenter Division and led technical and business evaluations of new technologies with a heavy focus on security and distributed computing infrastructure for new cloud workloads. Previous roles at VMware included Chief Technology Officer Platform Security, Chief Technology Officer Worldwide Public Sector, Senior Director R&D Worldwide Central Quality Engineering and Director of R&D for Partner Engineering. David started his career with Digital Equipment Corporation in 1983 working in the Laboratory Data Products Division and held subsequent senior engineering positions within Digital Equipment Corporation and subsequently Compaq Computer Corporation in both hardware and software engineering.

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Northeastern. He holds several U.S. patents and has had his work published in professional refereed journals. He is a current member of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Industry Advisory Board at Northeastern University and a founding member of National University’s Cyber Security and Information Assurance Advisory Council.
