Infosys Foundation and Infosys Bhubaneswar Collaborate With Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) To Provide Technical Training

60 students from economically backward strata provided six months of free residential, technical skill development training leading to 100% placement

Bhubaneswar – October 23, 2015: Akanksha, the CSR arm of Infosys Bhubaneswar Development Center (DC), today announced an enhanced partnership with the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), a Government of India Institute. Through this partnership, Akanksha will sponsor and support the free residential technical skill development training of 240 students across 4 batches at the CIPET campus II in Bhubaneswar. This endeavor is being undertaken with a financial grant of INR 1.64 Crore from the Infosys Foundation and is targeted at the unemployed youth belonging to poor and weaker sections of Odisha.

This collaboration follows the successful completion of a pilot training program that Akanskha and CIPET initiated in March 2015. The pilot that was conducted with a financial grant of INR 40 lakh from the Infosys Foundation, sponsored a batch of 60 students from the economically backward strata of the State with minimum educational qualifications of class 8. The program concluded successfully in September 2015 with 100% placement.

For the pilot program, Team Akanksha chalked out plans to connect with the unemployed rural youth through various strategies. Advertisements were placed in local newspapers through CIPET in English as well as Odiya. It reached out to Infoscions and Support Staff at Bhubaneswar DC through text messaging. Students and Parents of Pratibha Poshak community (the merit scholarship program for financially backward students run at Infosys Bhubaneswar by Akanksha) were also requested to help spread the message. 215 applications were received out of which 60 students finally joined the 6 months fully residential 'Plastics Processing Machine Operator (PPMO)' program. The cost for training per student was approximately INR 60,000 which included training, lodging & boarding, training kit and uniforms.

Team Akanksha did regular checks on quality of imparted training, ensured training on communication skills, exposure to concerned industries and other relevant skills which would increase their employability. The students also visited Infosys Bhubaneswar campus and were given an overview about different activities like chiller plant operations, water purification plant, DG operations and more.
