Infosys clarifies on the tax demands from Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation
With reference to recent media reports on tax demands from the Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation on Infosys, we would like to state that as per G.O (Government Order) (P) No.272/2004/LSGD dated September 8, 2004, and G.O. (P) 210/2012/LSGD, dated August 3, 2012, issued by the Kerala Government, all developers and entrepreneurs operating within Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are exempted from paying State and Local taxes and levies. This exemption is not unique to our company, but is a benefit extended to all SEZ entities.
Accordingly, the tax demands on Infosys by the Corporation authorities are not applicable.
We are hopeful that the tabling of the G.O., will put to rest the speculation on the nature of the tax exemption for SEZ entities at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram.
Together with Technopark management, we have clarified our position on this issue on several previous occasions. We will continue to co-operate fully with all the relevant authorities when more information is required.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Government of Kerala for their support.
