'It is more difficult to learn from success than from failure'
Lessons from the life and career of Narayana Murthy
N. R. Narayana Murthy, Chief Mentor and Chairman of the Board of Infosys Technologies, delivered a pre-commencement lecture to the graduating class of 2007 of Stern School of Business, New York University, on May 9, 2007.
He spoke about the lessons he learnt from his life and career, events that transformed him from a confused leftist into a compassionate capitalist, and his belief that the future is shaped by several turning points with great opportunities.
Mr. Murthy said that the founding of Infosys in 1981 and its growth to a $3 billion global giant are the result of systematic response to chance events. He asserted that his belief in learning from experience, a growth mindset, the power of chance events, and self-reflection helped him grow and succeed.
