  • “There is a huge amount of transformation, which is happening in terms of digital, and as it is, in a traditional world, embedding cybersecurity into technology was a challenge,” says Salvi
  • According to Salvi, the environment is changing, and corporates are realizing the importance of focusing on the cybersecurity landscape, and is a major point of discussion in the boardrooms today.

There are many essentials when it comes to large organizations embarking on the digital transformation journey. One of them – cybersecurity – has been observed as one of the highest priorities by most organizations. In fact, in a recent (Digital Radar Survey), conducted by Infosys, it was touted as a foundational expectation of executives. Infosys soon followed it up with a standalone (Cybersecurity Survey).

So, when Vishal Salvi, Chief Information Security Officer, Infosys, and Pulitzer-winning journalist, and cybersecurity influencer, Byron Acohido, had a conversation, the obvious topic of conversation was Cybersecurity.

“There is a huge amount of transformation, which is happening in terms of digital, and as it is, in a traditional world, embedding cybersecurity into technology was a challenge,” says Salvi suggesting that now it is becoming even more challenging with the rapidly changing agile technology landscape.

“So it is not coming as a surprise at all that cybersecurity is important. And, and now we need to find out ways to make sure that it gets embedded into the IT fabric of organizations,” notes Salvi. During the discussion with Acohido, who founded The Last Watchdog on Privacy & Security, Salvi also highlights the aspect of prominence of insider link to data breaches (mentioned in the Cybersecurity Survey), along with the other challenges like 5G and privacy, that are likely to bring about another set of concerns for cyber security.

“Cyber is heavily embedded into the issue of managing privacy… There is also a friction because security is also about monitoring. And sometimes you need to you get into a realm of privacy,” says Salvi, adding, “So, because of the privacy concerns, sometimes you're not your ability to monitor reduces, and that's where the friction is.” He, however, suggests that there are various strategies that one could use to address the requirement of privacy.

Also, according to Salvi, the environment is changing, and corporates are realizing the importance of focusing on the cybersecurity landscape. He suggests that today cybersecurity is a major point of discussion in the boardrooms.

“There is a heightened awareness and visibility to the topic. Most often than not, I see cybersecurity as one of the top three risks, or top five risks, that the board is looking at,” says Salvi, adding, “Cyber is now mainstream, and it is fundamental for business to grow and exist.”
