United Utilities Engages Infosys Technologies to Modernize Their Legacy System Using SOA

London, UK - November 1, 2007

Infosys Technologies Limited (NASDAQ: INFY) today announced that it will engage with United Utilities, a utilities company in the United Kingdom that manages electricity, water and wastewater networks, to modernize their Operations Management System (OMS). With this engagement, United Utilities aims to increase scalability and flexibility of its enterprise architecture through adoption of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), which is important to achieve regulatory compliance, involving the end-to-end design, development, migration and replatforming of OMS.

United Utilities selected Infosys because of their Legacy Modernization solution which utilizes principles of SOA to create a flexible IT environment. Over a period of nine months, Infosys will deliver a comprehensive approach to SOA adoption with frameworks, methodologies and reusable tools to facilitate United Utilities' transformation to a service-oriented enterprise. This approach will help United Utilities address issues such as scalability, extensibility, flexibility removal of redundant data, reuse, and modularity.

"At United Utilities we focus on leveraging technology to better serve our customers and this is what has led us to adopt a service-oriented approach to our enterprise architecture," said Mike Naden, United Utilities IS Services Director. "Because ensuring regulatory compliance and improving customer service starts with improving back-end systems, we needed a technology partner with proven expertise and that is why we chose Infosys. We look forward to successfully deploying our first SOA-enabled application."

"Our engagement with United Utilities is a great example of the trust that can be developed during a competitive selection process," said BG Srinivas, Head of EMEA, Infosys Technologies. "Our Legacy Modernization solution, part of the Catalytic IT Solution suite, is now being deployed at four of the largest Gas, Power and Water Utilities in the UK, helping these customers to adopt and implement flexible systems based on the latest technology to deliver better customer service and achieve regulatory compliance. We are looking forward to a long-term partnership with United Utilities that delivers measurable value to the organization both today and in the future."
