The client

The client is a large financial services company in North America offering services in portfolio management, investment management, private equity, HNI investment services and more.

Challenges

To meet financial targets in challenging market conditions, client wanted to rationalize and simplify IT spend. In addition, to reduce risk and ensure competitiveness client wanted to future proof its target state IT architectures.

Our solution

Infosys leveraged our SMART EA framework to drive agility and cost savings. By leveraging our multiple in-house accelerators and tools like Unix/C application migration workbench, Java migration accelerators, Sybase and Oracle database migration workbench we improved the predictability and efficiency of transformation.

Infosys’ wave planning framework takes into account multiple parameters like application technologies, inter-dependencies, complexity, and criticality to create cohesive application wave clusters for rationalization and migration to effectively manage large scale transformations.

  • Portfolio Rationalization of client’s large IT portfolio to simplify its IT landscape, standardize application landscape/infrastructure and reduce the total cost of operations including Infrastructure costs, maintenance cost and people costs.
  • Rationalization and migration of 90+ applications, 150 Sybase servers, and over 60 middleware, reporting, integration and vendor products in addition to consolidation and virtualization of 280+ Unix servers.
  • Modernization and transformation of legacy applications, which were over 15 years old with inconsistent standards, limited SME knowledge/ documentation.
  • Complex program management across 12 multiple teams and client organization units

Benefits

Infosys delivered a successful IT portfolio modernization across a complex enterprise achieving the client transformation goals for a simpler and more agile IT portfolio. As a result, client was able to eliminate costs of legacy and redundant systems and reduce costs of target state IT system through adoption of open source platforms. Total cost savings was $22M USD over 5 years by reducing server refresh and maintenance costs through consolidation and reduction in software maintenance and licensing costs.
