Scott Mason is COO for IT at Novartis and leads the IT Operations, Strategy, Transformation and Change Management functions.
Scott is responsible for execution of Novartis’ IT strategy and future proofing the IT operating model. The IT organization comprises staff of approximately 10,000 operating across the globe. Major goals of the Novartis multiple year transformation journey include generating a step increase in IT” “throughput” focusing on standardization/lean and enabling the company’s digital agenda.
Scott is accountable for developing cohesive and business aligned strategies and standardizing and operating all IT processes, tools and methods for service delivery excellence. In addition, Scott is charged with maximizing investments, driving the innovation portfolio, developing the workforce that includes a network of global service centers as well as optimizing supplier and software management.
Beyond IT, Scott is a key contributor to implementation of end-to-end services across Novartis Business Services and Novartis digital strategy.
Prior, Scott held the post of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Novartis where he was responsible for global technology functions including global infrastructure and platform services. Before joining Novartis in 2005 he consulted in the technology, financial services and utility sectors at Accenture.
Scott holds a PhD. from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich on artificial intelligence in precise metrology and a MSc. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. Originating from Australia, he has lived and worked across four continents. He is based in Basel, Switzerland’s biotech hub.
