  • Building a National Microelectronics Workforce: Shari Liss on the CHIPS-Era Crunch

    October 12, 2026

Insights

  • Semiconductor companies now treat workforce as a core business imperative. With about 200,000 new US workers needed and a million-plus gap globally, talent is the bottleneck on the industry's growth.
  • The US keeps rebuilding similar regional programs in isolation. A national network that shares curriculum, data, and what works lets one region's success lift the rest.
  • The industry is moving past the assumption that every worker needs multiple degrees. Apprenticeships, veteran hiring, and early K-12 engagement are opening real pathways in, shaped by companies and academia defining the skills each role needs.
