Transforming Demand Planning and S&OP at Marvell
How Infosys helped Marvell standardize demand planning and Sales & Operations Planning across multiple business units, using Kinaxis RapidResponse to improve supply-demand balance, planning visibility, scenario modeling, and forecast-driven decision-making.
Situation
Marvell embarked on a strategic supply chain transformation to strengthen its Demand Planning and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) capabilities in support of its ambition to accelerate the “Next Billion Connections.” The organization needed to improve demand and supply balance across several business units, including Boards, Optics, Networking, Automotive, Storage, and others, while establishing a more consistent and harmonized planning framework across diverse operational environments.
The transformation required Marvell to manage simultaneous process and application change, introduce uniform planning processes across business units, handle complex demand segmentation, and address demand prioritization and supply allocation challenges. Additional complexity came from multiple demand streams, bundled and unbundled kit-part data, and the need to convert process recommendations into a scalable planning model. Marvell needed a more integrated, responsive, and data-driven planning capability that could support shorter S&OP cycles, live scenario analysis, and a more realistic constrained revenue consensus forecast.
Solution
Infosys partnered with Marvell to implement Demand Planning and Sales & Operations Planning modules in Kinaxis RapidResponse, creating a more integrated planning ecosystem across Marvell’s business units. The engagement included a comprehensive blueprinting phase conducted in parallel with process improvement work, detailed scoping sessions, user story documentation, and the establishment of 10+ key design decisions to guide implementation and governance.
The solution introduced standardized demand planning and S&OP processes, statistical forecasting for both key and non-key customers, demand segmentation based on bucketization and volatility, what-if scenario modeling, dashboards, scorecard metrics, and robust demand-supply rebalancing aligned to supply allocation priorities. It also enabled automated snapshots of the Annual Operating Plan and Quarterly Operating Plan, supported visibility into backlog, actuals, revenue, flash data, and forecasting inputs, and created a centralized planning foundation to improve decision quality and enterprise-wide supply chain synchronization
