Southern California Edison (SCE) intends to build the grid of the future to support more clean energy, make way for more electric vehicles, and protect against the impacts of extreme weather as part of its Grid Modernization program. A key pillar in the program is to support the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER) to SCE’s grid. SCE’s Grid Interconnection Processing Tool (GIPT) allows customers to submit interconnection requests under SCE’s interconnection tariffs and provides a platform to optimize the cross functional business processes. The solution, built on Pega, established an intelligent automation framework for processing expected high volumes of interconnection requests and increasing regulatory requirements. It also provided a scalable solution to include future Rule 21 application variants with minimal effort, as well as an enhanced control mechanism provided to business users to make real-time changes depending on regulatory requirements. Learn how the interactive user experience provided to customers minimized the need for external help and ensured SCE’s goals of Clean Energy Pathway, increased customer satisfaction, and overall efficiency was attained.
