Infosys launches Melbourne 5G Living Lab

To help enterprises imagine and create new economies with 5G technology Accelerating service providers to monetise 5G network deployment

Infosys (NYSE: INFY), a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting, today announced the launch of its Melbourne 5G Living Lab, a new offering that will help organisations to become Live Enterprises by imagining and creating new economies with 5G technology, while simultaneously supporting communication service providers to accelerate and monetise their 5G network deployment.

Melbourne is the second 5G Living Lab to be launched after Bangalore, which was launched in March 2019. Infosys’ network of 5G Living Labs will be completed in five global locations; Bengaluru, Melbourne, Richardson (US), Indianapolis (US) and Frankfurt (Germany) to help ideate and bring these new economies to life.

As an ecosystem integrator, the Infosys 5G Living Lab in Melbourne will enable clients and partners to explore, develop and deploy 5G solutions and bring to life use cases to accelerate their digital transformation journey.

It will provide a simulated 5G environment for rapid experimentation of new technologies, combining the best of emerging technologies expertise in areas like IoT, AR, VR and AI and unique design thinking to address and test the following:

  • Defining business use cases and ROI
  • Co-creating and innovating solutions and use cases
  • Creating proofs of concept (PoCs) using its solution and accelerators along with technology providers and partners
  • Testing and validating the solutions
  • Act as a showcase ground for Infosys, partners and customers

5G will transform network capabilities, bringing in significant opportunities for network virtualisation, AI and automation while considerably lowering associated costs and enhancing the delivery of network-based services, IT systems and applications. More importantly, 5G will enable enterprises to create new experiences, services and improve operational efficiency across organisations.

“Our communications sector is facing rapid and continuing change. Infosys’ investment in a 5G Living Lab in Melbourne offers the promise of being an important enabler for businesses across Australia,” said Paul Fletcher, Federal Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and Arts at the event.

“The Australian Government recognises the potential of 5G and I am excited to see how use cases continue to evolve across our economy.”
