Infosys AI-First GCC Index – Volume 1: AI Adoption Nears Universal in India’s GCCs – But Only 27% Deliver Measurable Impact
India’s Global Capability Centers (GCCs) are rapidly evolving into AI-led innovation hubs, with AI adoption now nearly universal across the ecosystem. According to the Infosys AI-First Global Capability Center Index – Volume 1, developed by the Infosys Knowledge Institute, the research and thought leadership arm of Infosys, almost all surveyed GCCs have deployed AI, with 75 percent of functions supported by AI and 71 percent leveraging generative AI across functions.
Despite this widespread adoption, only 27 percent of GCCs report meaningful business impact - highlighting a clear gap between experimentation and measurable outcomes.
The research, based on a survey of 500 GCCs representing nearly a third of India’s GCC ecosystem, reveals that AI is still largely used to augment existing work rather than transform it. Nearly 70 percent of AI deployments support current employees, while AI enhances only 31 percent of tasks on average. This underscores significant headroom for deeper automation, greater scale, and stronger value creation, particularly as larger GCCs demonstrate a clear link between scale and improved outcomes.
To bridge the impact gap, the index emphasizes the need to move beyond isolated use cases toward execution at scale. GCCs that redesign processes around AI - rather than simply layering it onto existing models - are 30 percent more likely to achieve significant improvements. Leadership alignment, clear ownership, robust governance, and sustained investments in strategic partnerships and talent further accelerate success.
As GCCs evolve into truly AI-first organizations, the emphasis is shifting from adoption to outcomes. The research shows that leading GCCs move beyond pilots to embed AI across core processes and workflows – aligning technology, talent, and operating models to deliver measurable gains in productivity, innovation, and long-term business value.
