Hallmark Cards is seeking to improve operations in its Card Specialty Retail Channel in the areas of Pocket Lookup, Ordering, Inventory Control, and Mobile POS through the use of Wireless LAN Technology and advanced handhelds. In order to build the business case and evolve the technology solution Hallmark partnered with Infosys Technologies. Early on the companies discovered that the nature of the IT environment within the Retail Store posed significant constraints on the technology solution to build applications for the above operations. These include the absence of a full-fledged server environment, lack of "always-on" connectivity to Hallmark, as well as concern for security and systems administration skills.
The challenge for the Hallmark-Infosys team was to evolve an optimal technology solution within the constraints of the Store Systems while being able to demonstrate a separate ROI for both Hallmark and the retail store. The presentation will detail how the collaborative approach adopted by the Hallmark-Infosys resulted in leveraging strengths across both organizations, early identification of challenges in building the business case and a technology solution which meets Hallmark's business objectives.
