Instant Payments = Ramped Up Fraud
The general adoption of digital payments and
banking across all generations has impacted the industry and customers positively, as well as led to
continued payments innovation and modernization.
This shift is also being exploited by fraudsters as instant payments are the fraudster’s preferred method of money movement and is increasing the associated fraud typologies that leverage it, such as scams and ATO.
Consumers want the convenience of making payments from their own devices and they want these payments to be seamless and in real-time. More consumers are using mobile banking, virtual wallets, P2P solutions as well as emerging payments, such as BNPL, Crypto, and QR. Consumers and businesses aren’t the only ones embracing new technologies – fraudsters are also early adopters.
