Why and How AstraZeneca Embarked on the SAP Upgrade:

AstraZeneca is a world leading pharmaceutical company with a world-class biologics capability. Active in over 100 countries it has a growing presence in important emerging markets including China; corporate office in London, UK; and major R&D sites in Sweden, the UK and the US. It was formed through the merger of Astra AB of Sweden and Zeneca Group PLC of the UK - two companies with similar science-based cultures and a shared vision of the pharmaceutical industry.

Realizing the importance of an optimum SAP environment, AstraZeneca embarked on an SAP Upgrade to achieve cost optimization and enhanced productivity. Upgrade from 4.6c to ECC6 ensured continuous SAP support and a platform for functional exploitation. The business challenge was to upgrade a business-critical SAP 4.6c with 23 languages onto an SAP ECC 6.0 Unicode platform. This was done providing a tool-based and systematic execution approach along with the global delivery model which helped to bring efficiency and accuracy at the realization and testing stages.
