BioConserve Summit 2025

Biodiversity is a key indicator of ecological health, and its preservation requires collective action to provide refuge in urban areas. According to recent studies, large educational, governmental, defense, and multinational corporation campuses offer opportunities to significantly improve conservation efforts. Urban campuses can be pivotal in promoting biodiversity conservation by serving as catalysts for sustainable urban development. These campuses serve as a new category of conservation area outside of existing protected areas and reserved forests to foster biodiversity.

The global 2030 targets focus on the effective conservation and management of at least 30% of the world’s lands, inland waters, coastal areas, and oceans, especially areas crucial for biodiversity and ecosystem functions. Informally known as the ‘30 by 30’ deal, this ambitious goal aims to secure the planet’s ecological future. To achieve the global biodiversity target, it's essential to mobilize, encourage, and support autonomous communities to leverage Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECM) for fostering biodiversity.

BioConserve Summit 2025

Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) in collaboration with Infosys Limited, organized BioConserve Summit 2025 to address this rapid loss of global biodiversity due to urbanization. The summit hosted key stakeholders from academic and research institutions with expertise on ecological principles in restoration, campuses with demonstrated and documented success in biodiversity conservation, and representatives from emerging campuses to advance the urban sustainability dialogue and co-own conservation strategies to boost India’s biodiversity.
