A major US airline embarked on a large scale modernization initiative to transform its customer facing digital channels and personalization applications. Built on the classic .NET framework and hosted on on premises infrastructure, the legacy platforms struggled with high technical debt, frequent downtime, limited scalability, and rising operational costs—hindering the airline’s ability to support rapid user growth and deliver seamless customer experiences.
Infosys partnered with the airline to modernize the application landscape by transitioning to a cloud native .NET Core ecosystem on AWS. The initiative involved re architecting monolithic ASP.NET applications into microservices, modernizing front end experiences using React, and migrating workloads from on premises Windows servers to AWS. Databases were also modernized, moving from SQL Server and Couchbase to Amazon Aurora and Amazon ElastiCache for Redis.
The modernization covered end to end customer journeys—including flight search, booking, seat selection, travel readiness, check in, inflight, and post flight engagement—serving 744K daily users and over 20 million registered users. The resulting platform delivers higher availability, faster response times, improved disaster recovery, and significant cost savings, enabling the airline to scale reliably while delivering personalized, high performance digital experiences.

Infosys delivered a structured modernization and cloud migration solution that transformed the airline’s legacy digital platforms into a scalable, microservices based ecosystem on AWS. ASP.NET monoliths were decomposed into domain driven .NET Core microservices and deployed on Amazon ECS using AWS Fargate for simplified operations.
A phased migration strategy ensured minimal disruption while progressively shifting production traffic to the cloud. AWS services—including Amazon Aurora, Amazon ElastiCache for Redis, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, and Service Connect—enabled high performance interservice communication, resilience, and scalability. Security, authentication, logging, and monitoring were standardized using enterprise grade integrations.
The modernized platform supports personalized customer experiences at scale, delivers faster releases, and provides the airline with a resilient digital foundation capable of handling peak demand and future growth.
