A shop floor quality inspection control system

Situation

This client, a leading Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with operations in India, was facing challenges in efficiently capturing and managing manufacturing defects on their shop floor. Their existing processes likely involved manual data collection, paper-based systems, or disparate digital tools that weren't providing a consolidated view of quality issues across various departments.

Solution

We developed a shop floor quality inspection control application including the following:

  • Touch-screen friendly UI and mobile-ready design: This ensured ease of use for line associates across various shop floor departments, including press shop, welding, painting, engine and frame assemblies, and quality. The mobile-ready design likely provided flexibility and accessibility directly on the production line.
  • Traceability of defects: The system enabled the tracking of defects, providing valuable insights into the origin and patterns of quality issues.
  • Interface with assembly Line control system: Integration with the existing assembly line control system facilitated a seamless flow of information and potentially triggered real-time alerts or adjustments based on identified defects.
  • Real-time feedback: The application provided immediate feedback, likely allowing for quicker identification and resolution of issues.
  • Faster data analysis and reports, automated countermeasures: The solution enabled efficient analysis of defect data, generation of timely reports, and potentially even triggered automated workflows for implementing corrective actions.

Results

  • Reduced scrap by detecting quality issues up front
  • Industry 4.0 readiness
  • Reduced mean time to repair
  • Improved factory overall efficiency
