Head-end Virtualization is strategic and flagship solution for a leading North American Telco to migrate legacy CMTS to modern SDN based technology. Infosys has delivered this program in partnering with MSO, adopting ONF reference design, interfacing with third party partners, using open source components and interacting with multiple OEM vendors to design and develop SDN controlled whitebox switches as switching fabric in new datacenters for CMTS virtualization.
Partnered and co-developed switching fabric functionalities with Open Network Linux – ONL Labs.
Integrated virtual CMTS containers into R-CORD based switching fabric architecture
Developed scalable switching fabric monitoring framework by collecting metrics from SDN controller as well as from switches itself (using new generation Redfish APIs)
Developed Orchestration Platform using Kubernetes, E2E Deployment automation using Ansible playbooks and Terraform for AWS components
Developed L2 layer security framework for encrypting traffic from Secondary Centers to Primary Centers
Benefits
Moved the control and management plane of modem aggregation to virtualized environment thereby reducing the cost per node.
Higher programmability and faster service rollout
Improved cost efficiency due to better consolidation and hardware optimization
Reduced dependency on hardware OEM vendors
