Case Study

Global automotive manufacturer streamlines HR processes across 25,000 employees

The client

The client is a leading automobile manufacturer employing over 25,000 employees in manufacturing and distribution locations across the US, Canada and Mexico.

The various affiliates of the client ran disparate HR, benefits and payroll systems in different languages and in multiple currencies. This led to process and application redundancies, and operational complexity. The client launched a global initiative of process standardization and integration. This initiative aimed to transform its HR department into a world-class organization that would enable it to:

  • Improve productivity through a robust and unified HR-payroll system
  • Eliminate manual processes and consolidate back-office processes
  • Accelerate global decision-making
  • Reduce costs by leveraging a shared, centralized technology environment

Our solution

Infosys partnered with the client in the highly complex global initiative, using its proven processes and Global Delivery Model (GDM) to:

  • Define global templates and common processes across all affiliates
  • Manage end-to-end implementation of a multi-currency, multi-language HR, benefits and payroll system
  • Create a global platform to consolidate HR, payroll and benefits processes across all North American affiliates
  • Implement PeopleSoft v8.8 – payroll, global payroll, HR, benefits, resume processing, eCompensation, eBenefits, eRecruit, ePay, eProfile, eDevelopment, directory interface and related self-service modules
  • Deliver system development artifacts in an onsite-offshore process
  • Sunset the existing HR legacy systems

Infosys delivered a consolidated human capital management system that enabled the client to align HR with strategic business goals. The streamlined HR, benefits and payroll systems helped it to:

  • Reduce HR operations costs by one-third and improve productivity across three geographic regions
  • Improve global decision-making by enhancing reporting capabilities
  • Institute employee self-service processes to access personal information, benefits, payroll (online paychecks and direct deposit) and eliminate direct calls / interactions with HR personnel
  • Integrate recruitment, termination, payroll, and benefits administration into a single consolidated system
  • Manage inter-affiliate transfers more efficiently
  • Reduce annual maintenance (functional and technical) costs by eliminating redundant systems, processes, and procedures
  • Readily access historical data
  • Better manage inter-company operations and improve its ability to respond to changing business dynamics
