Software-defined networking – a critical enabler of IoT

Software-defined networking (SDN) will grow in importance as the Internet of Things (IoT) matures and its demands from the network increase. Experts predict that IoT could connect a whopping 21 billion devices by 2020. For SDN to become the norm, the growing number of mobile and other connected devices must begin to process the data they create between them.

Sreekanth S, Principal Technology Architect from Infosys Engineering Services, talks about the importance of SDN technology and how it can better prepare a network to successfully handle a robust IoT ecosystem. Alongside delivering the agility and elasticity that IoT demands, SDN also provides an open environment for application developers to develop innovative tools and software that connect IoT devices more effectively. Both of these technologies supplement each other in bringing us a better, more connected world.
